Blowing on the Wind

When all is gone, you miss the little things.

Wind swept across the barren landscape. Had creatures roamed to feel its bite, they would have hidden, but the wind could only find one victim, and he felt no cold.

Layers of Mylar kept Damien warm inside his spacesuit during solo expeditions on the planet surface. His first treks, optimistic and heroic, were long forgotten. His mind as heavy as his boots these days. He eyed the falling snow, jealous of existence beyond stale air. Damien fumbled his visor open, the shock of toxic wind joyous even in pain.

Nuclear survivors sheltered below earths surface would receive no report today.
