The baby never cried. Not at birth, while doctors verified vitals, nor in the night when nursing was needed. Perhaps it bothered Marty more because he hadn’t stopped crying. His wife, dead before the placenta came. Pallor and crimson, eerie silence for memories.

Marty marveled at cherub cheeks in ivory…
